Sam Lacey - Black & white fine art photographer
I photograph to convey ideas, stories and perspectives. I find naturally my work and my process are social commentaries, a convalescence of where I have grown up and the ideas I was educated with, battling against the ideas I have come to value and hold truest to me now.
My first exhibition and photobook, Abroad: Travels through Western Europe, was shot over a 6 month working holiday in France and neighbouring countries. The images exhibited showcase what I perceived as interesting and noteworthy, from the perspective of an Australian born in the 90s. A heavy influence is the view of capitalism and technology that has shifted society so unbelievably far in the past two decades, and how that plays out across tourist settings and in people’s day to day lives.
I release a half-yearly newsletter updating patrons of my photographic work. This limits my correspondence to ensure there is only genuinely interesting content, images and updates.
